It is that time of year again! TAX TIME! The IRS is now accepting tax returns for the 2019 tax year. Some of us dread this time while others look forward to their tax refund check all year! If you are one of the fortunate few that receives a nice healthy refund check, then this is a good day for you but for the rest of us who end up owing the IRS even more of our hard-earned money, this is a dreadful day. We are always looking for the best and most economical way to file our taxes; one that will maximize our refund or minimize the amount you owe. We tried FreeTax USA for the first time last year (see last year’s post here) and we used them again this year. Once again, we were extremely satisfied with the experience.
We have always filed our own taxes and for many years, we completed a paper return and mailed it into the IRS. Yes, we know it is hard to believe we actually used pen and paper! When we first started filing our own taxes online, we used TurboTax but then we found TaxAct. It was just as easy to use as TurboTax but much more affordable. We used this until last year after someone told us about a better option – a program called FreeTax USA.
We were very impressed with the ease of inputting our information into the program. FreeTax USA was simple to use, had easy to understand instructions and was more affordable than TurboTax or TaxAct. FreeTax USA does not charge a fee for filing your Federal return and charges a very nominal fee for filing your State return. Once you use the FreeTax USA Service, you are able to save time by “auto-filling” your tax information from a previous year.
FreeTax USA is just one of many options you have when filing taxes. We are not affiliated in any way with any of the companies mentioned in this post; we are just trying to give people better options than they are currently using. Someone passed this information to us and we are now passing it along to you. We are always looking to find better and sometimes cheaper options to get things done. Hopefully, this information helps you and your family save a dollar or two on filing your taxes. Happy filing!
